Go-to Drink: Flat White
Go-to Cafe: The Bike Lock
Date Attended Workshop: September 2021

Why did you initially enrol on the barista training?

I enrolled because at the time I didn’t have a hobby and I always thought that making coffees looked like such a relaxing thing to do and wanted to learn to potentially find a job in the realm if I enjoyed it, which I did!

Tell us about your experience with Boss & Brew Academy.

The workshops that I attended with the B&B Academy were amazing. We learnt a bit about the history of coffee which was super interesting but we were also taught how to espresso and do latte art, which of course, as the practical was the most enjoyable part! I originally didn’t intend to go with the agenda of meeting new people, but the people who attended helped make the experience 10x better. There was plenty of support from the peers around me but there was also huge support from Natalie who made making coffee such an enjoyable experience. Though I didn’t see this coming, I also left the workshop with a food hygiene and safety certificate which has been really useful to me since i’ve progressed.

What have you been doing since the workshop?

Since the workshop, i’ve managed to bag myself a job in a café (The Bike Lock) as a barista! I’ve had all sorts of experiences, events, parties and all sorts in this job which has helped me figure out how to work efficiently and effectively in different atmospheres and paces. The food hygiene and safety certificate and course has also helped me ensure that what i’m doing when handling foods and coffees is correct and safe so that customers are satisfied and there are no complications. The Academy has allowed me to find myself a hobby that I genuinely enjoy which makes it all the more rewarding when i’m getting paid for doing something I love; making coffees and engaging with friendly customers.
